BIO
Rocio Márquez (Huelva, 1985) is one of the fundamental figures of flamenco music in the 21st century. When it comes to positioning herself as a cantaora, she takes the baton from the great renovators of the genre.
In her three decades of artistic career, she has combined research rigour, creative vocation and interpretative excellence. The result is a resounding contribution to the fact that flamenco is today at the forefront of today's music. Rocío puts her vocal excellence at the service of an artistic restlessness that leads her to cross the flamenco canons without dogmas or attachments.
She explores with melodies, instrumentation, arrangements, lyrics and flamenco corporeality itself. This discography is a journey to the centre of herself, a process of legitimisation of her own, a plea for play and permission.
Aquí y ahora, 2009; Claridad, 2012; El Niño, 2014; Firmamento, 2017; Diálogo de viejos y nuevos sones (with Fhami Alqhai), 2018; Visto en El Jueves, 2019; Omnia vincit amor (with Enrike Solinís), 2020; Tercer cielo (with Bronquio), 2022; Flamencos: Falla, Albéniz, Granados, 2022 (with Rosa Torres Pardo).
In these albums we also find another of Rocío's musical foundations, that of placing flamenco in open dialogue and a willingness to meet through alliances with artists belonging to different musical styles. There are incursions into baroque music, classical music, Spanish and Latin American folklore, urban and electronic music, jazz, singer-songwriters, pop, rock and contemporary music. All this, weaving collaborations with artists of the stature of Jorge Drexler, Christina Rosenvinge or Kiko Veneno.
