BIO
As is often the case in the world of the double bassist, the cultures of the Mediterranean coast have a place of choice, but the path also passes through Persia and, more unexpectedly, Ireland, due to its insularity! “Blue Maqam” lets us hear eight languages sung, the little Babel, where the words of Renaud and Solea evoke emotional landscapes in the style of haikus. At the heart of the music is the double bass/voice partnership; that of Solea García-Fons, the first since she was his daughter, but also because singing has long been absent from her world.
And here, the blades of Stéphan Caracci’s vibraphone (also present on the bass marimba during the double bassist’s aerial forays), with the percussion of Jean-Luc Di Fraya draw a canvas conducive to García-Fons’ flights. The double bassist presents himself as one of the magicians of the current jazz scene, one of its most captivating passers-by.
The instrumentalist is one of those who have regularly taken the river out of its course, subverting the specific language of jazz to sublimate it with the scent of distant fragrances. The expressiveness of his interpretation surprises when we learn the usual register of the instrument, here equipped with a fifth string in the high notes; an unsuspected orchestral world emerges under his agile and mischievous fingers. All this sounds like a bold universalist plea as clouds threaten on the horizon.
